...accuses police of lack of diligence in investigating allegations
A 65-year-old Businesswoman, Madam Olufunmilayo Elizabeth, has raised the alarm over alleged multiple assassination attempts on her life over the control of the landed properties left behind by her late mother, Mama Olabisi Odubona.
Madam Olufunmilayo alleged that one of her siblings (names withheld), who had seized control of their mother's houses in Lagos and Ogun states, and had been collecting rents from the tenants occupying the properties, had been after her life.
She claimed that she had survived no fewer than three assassination attempts since their 92-year-old mother died almost one and half years ago, for opposing what her elder sibling and others had been doing with the proceeds from the millions of Naira collected as rents from their mother's houses and for demanding accountability and her right.
Madam Olufunmilayo, who also claimed to be the second out of the six children of the late Mama Odubona, accused her siblings of refusing to act according to the will their late mother wrote before her death forbidding her children from selling off any of her landed properties.
She stated that the late Mama Odubona warned her children never to sell any of her houses and lands, but instead, they should lease them and collect rents.
Madam Olufunmilayo alleged that her siblings had been acting contrary to Mama Odubona's instructions as contained in her will, alleging that they had already sold one of her houses located in 75,Opebi Street Ikeja Lagos and had shared the proceeds amongst themselves.
She stated that although the matter of the alleged assassination attempts on her was reported to the police and it was transferred to the Panti division in Lagos, there had been no diligence on the part of the police.
Madam Olufunmilayo said the matter was being charged as homicide but the officer handling it retired and it was handed to another officer whose identity was not disclosed to her.
She stated, "My life is in danger. They sent assassins to me on three different occasions but I miraculously escaped. They've even co-opted my biological daughter, using her to convince people that I also have a hand in all they're doing. I learnt that they also gave my daughter some money from the proceedings of our mother's property they sold in Opebi. I have already disclaimed that my daughter involved in their illegality.
"The business tycoon woman that bought the Opebi land from them should know now that the land is not for sale. He should demand they refund her money before it's too late."
Madam Olufunmilayo further accused her siblings of perpetrating other atrocities, alleging that her siblings obtained a fake death certificate, after their mother died, attributing her death to "old age."
She said contrary to her advice that they should spend whatever amount of money at hand on the burial of their late mother whose corpse is still being kept in the mortuary almost one and half years after she passed on, her siblings are bent on selling the properties she left behind first and later claim to have expended all the proceeds on her funeral.
Madam Olufunmilayo further accused her siblings of neglecting their mother towards the end of her lifetime.
"When Mama was alive, they didn't take care of her. Whenever she asked for food, my elder sister staying with her would be provoked and shout on her. Mama told me one day when I did a video call with her how she was being maltreated and had been taking care of herself," she said.
Madam Olufunmilayo appealed to the police to demonstrate diligence in investigating the family's matter already reported to them to protect her life and stop her siblings from perpetrating further illegalities regarding their late mother's properties.
