CLINTON OYESANWO
Recall that during the 2019 general elections, Adelabu contested for governorship on the platform of the All Progressives Congress and lost to Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party.
In the run-up to the 2023 elections, Adelabu resigned from the APC and joined the Accord Party, where clinched the governorship ticket, but lost again to the incumbent Governor Makinde.
But he returned to the APC in 2023 following his appointment as minister by President Bola Tinubu.
Adelabu was seen in a viral video engaging APC stakeholders and leaders in Oyo State, while also declaring his intention to join the 2027 governorship race.
Addressing the gathering in Yoruba, Adelabu adopted President Tinubu’s slogan of “E mi Lokan” (it’s my turn), stressing that he had paid his dues in Oyo’s politics.
The Minister declared, “I have been on this journey for a while now. I believe it’s not the day you start politics that you begin to reap the benefits.
“I have now paid my dues. I contested against Seyi (Makinde) in 2019. In 2023, I also contested against Seyi, then as the sitting governor. But this 2027, God has shown that it’s my turn.
“It’s Adelabu’s time. Anything that belongs to Adelabu belongs to us all.”
Adelabu urged party leaders and supporters to give him their support in the struggle to take Oyo back from the PDP and restore APC’s leadership.
“I’m ready to take the lead to embark on a house-to-house campaign, day and night to beg our people in order to work together and reap the benefits,” Adelabu added.
