How Nnamdi Kanu sacked his lawyers in open court

Biafra nation agitator and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday, in open court, seized his case file from his lead counsel and former Attorney General of the Federation, Godwin Kanu Agabi, SAN.

With this dramatic action, Kanu effectively sacked his lawyers defending him against the terrorism charges being pressed against him by the Federal Government.

The self-acclaimed IPOB leader took the decision shortly after being brought into the courtroom by operatives of the Department of State Services.

In a surprise move, Kanu, after exchanging pleasantries with the lead counsel, told Agabi that he would no longer require the services of his legal team, advising them to leave the court.

The conversation between Kanu and his team of lawyers was conveyed to the trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, who inquired and confirmed from the IPOB leader that he would henceforth represent himself.

Kanu also declined the judge’s suggestion of assigning him a lawyer.

It was at this juncture that Kanu Agabi, SAN, announced the withdrawal of all the Senior Advocates of Nigeria from the trial.

The IPOB leader then began to shout repeatedly that the court had no jurisdiction to try him.

Kanu was scheduled to open his defence in the terrorism charges against him, having lost his no-case submission earlier.
