A popular fashion entrepreneur and proprietor of Ceyola School of Fashion Design and Ceyola Styles & Stitches, Omolola Togunwa, was allegedly caught in a hotel room with her bisexual partner, Zainab, while engaging in intimate activities at a local hotel located in the Obada area on the outskirts of Abeokuta, Ogun State, on April 11, 2024, at about 4:00 p.m.
According to eyewitness accounts, Omolola Togunwa was caught red-handed with Zainab, who is reportedly one of her customers and also a married woman.
An eyewitness revealed that Zainab’s husband, who had long suspected an illicit relationship between his wife and the fashion entrepreneur, had repeatedly warned her to desist from the alleged bisexual relationship.
Following persistent suspicion, he reportedly hired a private investigator and also bribed a staff member of the hotel to monitor her movements, especially whenever she was seen in the company of Omolola.
On April 11, 2024, both women reportedly visited the hotel as they allegedly had on previous occasions.
On that day, the private investigator tipped off the husband, who then mobilized the investigator and a group of hired thugs to storm the hotel.
Eyewitnesses stated that the men forcibly barged into the hotel room, physically assaulted both women, dragged them outside, and took several photographs, which were later circulated.
Multiple photographs were reportedly taken at different locations within the hotel premises, including the reception area, restaurant, corridor, and at the entrance of the hotel room.
When contacted, the husband reportedly confirmed that he had been monitoring his wife’s activities and had arranged surveillance through a private investigator and a hotel staff member. However, he declined to disclose the identity of the informant.
The husband further stated that he had sent Zainab away from his home and denied her access to their children following the incident. Efforts to contact the husband of Omolola Togunwa proved unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
As of the time of this publication, both women were unreachable, with reports indicating that they had fled the area for fear of arrest, mob attack, or community violence, given the strict laws and strong social stigma against same-sex relationships in Nigeria.
Sources further revealed that Ceyola Fashion House has remained shut since the incident, allegedly due to public backlash and security concerns.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to Nigeria’s strict legal stance against same-sex relationships.
Under Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act of 2014 (SSMPA), any individual convicted of engaging in homosexual acts faces up to 14 years imprisonment, while membership or support of LGBTQ organizations carries up to 10 years imprisonment.
Speaking on the matter, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Adeleye, confirmed that the incident had been formally reported and that investigations were ongoing.
He explained further that efforts are underway to locate and arrest the two women in connection with the alleged offence, in line with existing Nigerian law.
